Japan is still reeling from the damaging effects of an earthquake and tsunami that struck the island nation in March, but officials from the country’s government Thursday reached out to Alabama and those affected here by another daunting natural disaster.
Representatives from the Japanese government joined Alabama’s Attorney General Luther Strange, Alabama Development Office Director Seth Hammett and other state and federal officials at a Montgomery warehouse where they formally accepted the donation of 8,000 blankets and 150 pieces of huge plastic sheeting.
“On behalf of the State of Alabama, I want to express to the citizens of Japan our deep gratitude for this gracious donation to our own disaster victims even as they are still suffering from the aftermath of the tragic earthquake and tsunami that struck their own country,” said AG Strange.
Strange said the donation was ”a sign of the goodwill between our countries, for which we are thankful.”
We had a science program at my library yesterday for children and the whole time I couldn’t help thinking-
America would be SO awesome at teaching science to children. He’d make it SO fun and encourage them to do silly things as experiments.
NEED MORE SCIENCE!NERD AMERICA.
Lt. Surge was called an American wasn’t he? I always think of that when I see Raichu now.
Lt. Surge is known as The Lightning American. Apparently, he is or was an American soldier who fought in at least one war, during which Electric-type Pokémon saved his life. As a member of the army, Surge was a strict commanding officer, and was rather cautious. He was a pilot as well, and used Electric-type Pokémon to power his planes, a practice that in at least one occasion saved his life. Also, Surge saved the life of one of the Trainers in his gym who was in the army at the same time.
America is such a giant kid. Sure, he can be serious and mature when he needs to, but you know his work desk is covered in action figures and he sleeps with stuffed animals.
