So, our cat and one of our chinchillas are best friends. Rakushun, our tan chinchilla, has always been easily scared, but apparently Cambridge is an exception to that. Rakushun made fast friends with Cambridge and they play games together (some weird sort of cat-chinchilla tag through the bars of his cage. Rakushun seems to think this is the BEST GAME EVER and gets so excited about it), and Cambridge will often sleep right below the cage when Rakushun is sleeping.

Today we let Rakushun come out and play on the couch and we saw our shy little chinchilla being braver and more fearless than ever before. Whenever a noise startled him, he’d run behind Cambridge for protection. And as he adventured around, he’d stop and come back over to give Cambridge nose-kisses every now and again. After putting him back in his cage, the two played tag before they both decided to take a nap.
